FAQs

Who founded Hydrate Medical and what's their background?

Hydrate Medical was founded by Dr. Jonathan Leake, MD and Keith Parris, ACNP, emergency medicine providers with over 30 combined years of ER experience. That background shaped everything about how the clinic operates, from the clinical standards and screening protocols to the way nurses approach IV placement. The founders also bring over a decade of personal endurance sports experience, including six Ironman finishes, road racing, cycling, and CrossFit. That combination of ER training and firsthand athletic recovery experience is where the idea for Hydrate Medical came from, and it’s the foundation behind every location we operate across North Carolina and South Carolina.

The founders spent years in emergency medicine watching patients come in dehydrated from illness, overexertion, or a rough night — situations where IV fluids, electrolytes, and vitamins made an immediate difference. They also experienced the recovery gap firsthand as athletes: what works in clinical settings for rehydration and nutrient replenishment is simply better than oral supplementation for acute recovery. Hydrate Medical was built to make that level of care accessible outside of an ER setting, in an environment that’s fast, comfortable, and designed around what clients actually need.

The ER background is the clearest differentiator. Hydrate Medical is owned and operated by Dr Jonathan Leake, MD and Keith Parris, ACNP, with nurse practitioners actively overseeing care across all locations and conducting new patient visits. More than 90% of the nursing team are emergency medicine RNs with over five years of experience — placing IVs, monitoring patients, and managing complications is their core skill set. The drips themselves were built from the science, with careful attention to what works best and at what dose. Beyond credentials, Hydrate Medical was Charlotte’s first IV hydration clinic and has been operating for over a decade, a long track record in a market with many newer entrants.

Most IV drip visits run about 45 minutes from the time your IV is placed, plus a few minutes for the intake screening at the start. Plan for about an hour door to door. B12 and NAD+ subcutaneous injections take five to ten minutes. NAD+ IV infusions take four to six hours and are scheduled as longer dedicated appointments.

Eat a light meal before your visit and drink some water on the way over. Arriving dehydrated or on an empty stomach can cause lightheadedness during the session. Bring a photo ID and your payment method — no paperwork is required ahead of time. Wear something with sleeves that can be easily rolled up or pushed back past the elbow.

Mild bruising or soreness at the IV site is the most common thing clients notice, and it resolves on its own within a day or two. Our team will walk you through aftercare before you leave and let you know what to watch for. Serious complications are rare when IV therapy is administered by qualified clinical staff following proper protocols — which is exactly the standard we operate to.

Certain medical conditions — heart failure, severe kidney disease, and some electrolyte imbalances among them — and some medications can make IV therapy unsuitable. The intake screening before every visit is designed to catch exactly this. If something in your history is a concern, your provider will tell you clearly and explain why. We don’t proceed with treatment when we have safety questions about a client’s situation.

Often yes. Many clients pair a standard drip with a B12 injection, or add a booster to address a specific symptom. Your provider will confirm that combining treatments is appropriate based on what you’re booking and how you’re feeling that day. NAD+ IV infusions are typically standalone given their duration.

Hydrate Medical has clinics across North Carolina (Asheville, Ballantyne, Cary, Charlotte, Lake Norman, Mooresville, Raleigh) and South Carolina (Fort Mill). Each location operates on its own subdomain — you can find your nearest clinic and book directly from the Locations page.
Contact the clinic directly. Our team reviews aftercare with every client before they leave and provides guidance on what’s normal and what warrants a follow-up call. Mild site soreness and slight fatigue are within the range of normal. Anything beyond that — sustained nausea, significant bruising, unusual symptoms — is worth calling about. If you’re experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
